Definitions of terms used in Naamsa database

ULP : Unleaded Petrol

LRP : Lead Replacement Petrol

R - Recommended : The fuel grade which is recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for optimum vehicle performance, driveability and fuel economy. The use of a higher octane fuel will not yield improved efficiency.

C - Compatible : Alternative fuel grades which the vehicle manufacturer considers suitable for vehicle operation without risk of engine damage.

N - Not Suitable : The fuel grade is deemed unsuitable by the vehicle manufacturer as it is likely to result in engine damage and/or severely reduced performance.

VSR : Valve Seat Recession : An increased engine valve wear condition which can be experienced with some pre 1996 vehicles which rely on certain metal petrol additives for valve lubrication when operated at sustained high engine speeds

Coastal : Areas which are generally less than 1200m above sea level.

Inland : Areas which are generally more than 1200m above sea level.
